There are so many comments about Mike Oldfield like he “looks like a fag”,
“this is terrible music”, and etc.
Let’s just consider being mature for 2 minutes and take a breather.
He completely made the Tubular Bells song on his own, and released the
album at the age of 19. Shortly after that, Virgin Labels was created and
he was the head runner and idol for this label.
Now this should give you some perspective on how talented this man is. You
can voice your opinion all you want about the music, I am sure he knows
that the song is mediocre compared to his other works. Totally
understandable.
But the amount of comments regarding his age or look, as well as the
singer, Spillner’s looks, is unreal. Mike is 61, and the looks are going to
catch up to the age (which they have). Personally, I like his style, even
when he was just 19. He is still regarded as a successful artist in this
day and age, able to keep up with his trade, and all of the shots we see in
this video? You’re looking at his home. I’m positive that he enjoys the sea
on his nice, shining boat while the “fag” comments are coming along.
Fun fact, the entire The Songs of Distant Earth is an ode to the Arthur C.
Clarke novel, “The Songs of Distant Earth”.
Arthur Clarke was a gay man. It’s quite sad that fag is still a word used
to belittle someones overall look.
Anyway, I didn’t agree with those comments being here without standing up
for Oldfield. He won’t see this comment, but being a lifelong fan of his
music, it is always related to my life in some way, I felt I had to write
this.

something out of their style. He can write real music, he can play real
music, he is not a precoocked outcome of the industry which cages artists
in predefined styles. We have enough boybands and bad girls around singing.
This is a fresh old rock album. Not a masterpiece but a very enjoyable
album.
Very good album. Luke Spiller (the singer) is fantastic, he deserves more
credit, but he doesn’t have a Wikipedia page yet. I’m going to listen to
Mike Oldfield’s other albums.
